Several different products are used to seal the flap on the envelope. These vary based on the type of use the envelope is designed to support such as:
- Remoistenable - activated by water
- Latex - some reuse, easy open
- Peel and seal - glue behind removable strip
- Clasp - for numerous reuse
- String and button - also for numerous reuse
